Around 7500 candidates took the Management Entrance Test (MET), a state level entrance test for admissions to MBA and MCA in around twelve centers in Chandigarh and Punjab. This time, the test was conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar. Through MET, candidates can seek admission to all universities of Punjab including PTU Jalandhar, GNDU Amritsar, Punjabi University Patiala and its affiliated colleges. University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University and Government College, Mohali were the main centers, where around 1000 candidates appeared. In Punjab Patiala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Gurdaspur and others were the other centers. Aspirants of MBA institutes in the state and who had missed out the centralised admission process (CAP) conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) or had not succeeded to clear it will now get another chance. The Association of Management of MBA/MMS Institutes (AMMI) will conduct a common entrance test — AMMI-MBA/ MMS - CET-2011 for students seeking admissions for MBA/MMS courses in management institutes affiliated to universities in the state and approved by AICTE and the state government. Of the 350-odd MBA institutes in the state, 230 are members of the association. Coimbatore: Bharathiar University has recently started a distance learning centre in Washington (United States) and Toronto (Canada). This was announced by the Vice-Chancellor of the varsity G. Thiruvasagam during an interaction with media persons. The university has already established its centres in Kuwait, Dubai and Singapore. Mr. Thiruvasagam said, "People living in theses countries have shown their interest in setting up such centres. They are interested in courses such as MBA , MCA, BCA, and BBA, besides the integrated four-year B.Sc. programme which the university plans to launch in the next academic year". New Delhi: Drop in recruitments in the aviation sector is a "minor hiccup" and "the industry will bounce back" in a few months, say leading aviation training institutes here. "The layoff will largely affect individuals. The institute will not be affected much. This is just a minor hiccup in the aviation industry," Sameer Walia, vice-president (communications) of Frankfinn Management Consultants, said on Thursday. India's leading private sector airline Jet Airways on Wednesday announced it would retrench around 1,900 employees to cut operational costs.
