CBSE to introduce human rights as a new subject
New Delhi: Seeing the pathetic plight of children at the hands of care givers in Shimla and Mumbai, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has vouched for the inclusion of human rights education (HRE) in the school curriculum. The government also took serious note of the deteriorating human rights situation of children. The Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry admitted that it had become important to introduce human rights education into school, college and university system. Taking this grave matter into account, the Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) has prepared a blueprint of the draft syllabus for "Human rights and gender studies" subject. It will be implemented from the next year as an elective courses in classes XI and XII. The mooted question is the evaluation of children in the context.
