Post IIT entrance results, students pour into Kota coaching institutions
After Kota's performance in IIT-JEE improved this year, bagging three position in top 10, hundreds of IIT and medical aspirants have started pouring into Kota to seek admission in the premier coaching institutes. Admissions would continue till the mid-July. With more students attracted to Kota, the coaching institutes have become a multi-million dollar industry. "With average annual coaching fees of Rs 50,000-60,000, school fee of Rs 20,000-30,000 and an average monthly spend of Rs 5,000 per student for food and lodging, the coaching "economy" is estimated to be over Rs 1,000 crore per year in Kota, roughly three times the cost of an IPL team for a decade.
