PhD students to burn degrees in protest
Jaipur: PhD students will burn their degrees to protest against Rajasthan University's decision not to allow them to appear in interviews directly for the post of assistant professors in university. The RU has announced that even PhD holders will have to qualify tests, like national eligibility test (NET) or state level eligibility test (SLET). Students said that according to the university grants commission (UGC) guidelines, all PhD holders up to 2009, are exempted from taking NET or SLET and can face interviews or screening tests. However, the university has exempted only those students who have registered for PhD by clearing a pre-entrance exam. "We strongly object to the guidelines adopted by university in the selection process of assistant professors.
