School fees set to rise by not more than Rs 500
A panel appointed to look into the demands of Delhi schools for a tuition fee hike, gave its report on Tuesday saying an increase is justified but it should not be more than Rs 500 a month. The five-member committee headed by a former bureaucrat S.L. Bansal was tasked to look into the demand for a hike made by schools in order to pay their staff more, in line with the sixth pay panel report. Accepting the report, Delhi education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said a formula will be devised for fixing the size of the hike. “We’ve set up a sub-committee to prepare a hike plan based on income slabs and a school’s assets. Some parents can afford to pay a higher tuition fee, but others may find it tough. Its report will be submitted before the cabinet for approval,” Lovely said.
