IITs contemplate to offer combined masters and doctoral programme
New Delhi: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are contemplating to offer combined masters and doctoral programme for engineering and science students with an aim to attract more students willing to pursue research in science and engineering. A meeting of IIT Council has been scheduled to discuss this proposal on January 28. "This has been seen many of the brightest Indian students interested in pursuing research in the sciences or engineering leave the country to study combined M.S/Ph.D or M.Tech/PhD courses in the US and other western countries," said an IIT official. Most of the universities in US and Europe offer combined masters and doctoral programme. But Indian science students need to complete their postgraduation before applying for Ph.D course.
