PU students’ organisation seeks reduction in special exam fee
The Panjab University student party, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), submitted a memorandum to the University Vice Chancellor Prof R C Sobti regarding a reduction in examination fee for a special chance offered by the University. The memorandum questioned the reasons for increasing the examination fee from the previous charges of Rs 7,500 to Rs 10,000 this year. Sunny Mehta, campus vice president of NSUI said, “One cannot see any ground as to why the fee should be increased to Rs 10,000 from the earlier one Rs 7500. Students who as such are under financial burden should not be over burdened with such exorbitant charges. Another example where excess fees in charged is PhD entrance exam where a fee of Rs 1800 is charged from candidates. This is also unreasonably high.” The students said that there are other ways to generate funds for the University that will not only bring more fund to the University but also increase its academic standards which is the dire need at the moment....
