RRB postpones exam of Patna, Muzaffarpur, Ranchi region

Patna: The Railway Recruitment Examinations (written) scheduled to be conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Patna, Muzaffarpur and Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Ranchi on November 9, 2008 (Sunday) have been postponed. The exams of RRB, Ranchi which were scheduled to be conducted at centres situated at Ranchi, Rourkela, Jamshedpur, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack town have been postponed. The written exams of RRB, Patna and Muzaffarpur which were scheduled to be conducted at centres situated in Patna town have also been postponed. "The examination has been postponed till further notice due to unavoidable administrative reasons. A fresh date of examination will be communicated in due course", an official from the board said. The Board has also advised candidates to visit the website of the Railway Recruitment Control Board (www.rrcb.gov.in) and zonal RRB's website (www.rrbpatna.org and www.rrbranchi.org) for further information. Uttar Pradesh to debar over 300 schools from conducting exams

Lucknow: In its attempt to curb copying during examinations, the Uttar Pradesh government will debar over 300 schools from conducting the state board's high school and intermediate examinations, an official said on Thursday. "As there were repeated complaints of mass copying, tampering and leak of question papers, the 300-odd schools would not be made examination centres for the next board exams," Uttar Pradesh board secretary Prabha Tripathi told sources. The blacklisted schools are in various districts including Allahabad, Aligarh, Etah, Hardoi, Ghazipur, Ballia, Mathura, Shahjahanpur and Kaushambhi, she added. More than four million students across Uttar Pradesh had appeared for the high school and intermediate 2008 examinations. HSLC results: it’s time to ponder — Dr. Jyotsna Bhattacharjee The results of the HSLC examination, 2008 were announced by SEBA on May 27. It was a day of joy and sorrow - joy for the successful candidates and sorrow for those who could not succeed. Out of 2,39,606 candidates 140,618 candidates came out successful. Out of hem 17,084 secured first division, 29,714 secured second division and 93,820 third divisions. The pass percentage is 58.68. It is encouraging to note that the pass percentage has increased noticeably from last year’s 54.93.In spite of the improved percentage there have been a huge number of failures. It is true that there must be failures in any examination - but if they are too many it is time to ponder over the matter. Nearly one-lakh students could not cross the line of success. However encouraging is the maxim that “failures are the pillars of success”, there is no doubt that it does not help in mitigating the sufferings of the failed students in any way. The quest...
