ICSE board feels teaching standards have slipped
Even though the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) pass percentages were slightly higher across the country compared to last year, the board believes that teaching standards have slipped. The ICSE and ISC results were declared on Tuesday. In their feedback to the board, examiners across subjects from schools all over have reported a fall in teaching standards. The board is now planning to look into the issue by providing additional teacher training and support. “Examiners told us they felt teaching standards had slipped a little,” said Gerry Arathoon, additional secretary and officiating chief executive of the board. “This is an issue we will be taking up immediately. We want children to improve their performances and for that we need to prepare them well.” The board conducts teacher-training programmes twice every year at its Kolkata office.
