Himachal Pradesh seeks extension of ICT Project to Middle Schools
Shimla: State Government had requested the Government of India to extend the ongoing ICT (Information and Communication Technology) @School Scheme under implementation in the Government Senior Secondary Schools to Government Middle Schools in the State as well with a view to provide students quality education. Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister had made this request in a letter written to Shri Kapil Sibbal, Union Human Resource Development Minister, today.
Chief Minister said that the ICT@School Project approved by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development for implementation in the Government Senior Secondary Schools in the State had been successful in improvement of classroom transactions and providing students quality education where multi media teaching aids had been provided to the students with syllabus based educational content. He said that teachers had also been trained to implement the project. He said that the multi media teaching aids had transformed the teaching and learning in the state owned educational institutions. He said that since the State had high rate of literacy and quality education had emerged the need of the hour, hence it would be in the best interest of the student community to extend the project down to the middle school level. He said that state had about 1000 government middle schools and project implementation would be entailing an expenditure of not more than Rs. 40 crore. He said that the project would go a long way in capacity building of the teacher for using interactive and multi media means for the transaction of academic curriculum as well as for capacity building for developing such interactive multi media software for their own routine teaching activity.
Prof. Dhumal said that with a view to keep with the modern technological advancements computer enabled education had emerged the need of the hour. He said that with the starting of ICT Project at middle standard level, by the time students pass out from the schools they would be adequately equipped to meet the forthcoming challenges in their future academic and career pursuits. He said that the State Government had been giving added preference to the computer enabled education and implemented the ICT project as per the guidelines and encouraging outcome had been visible with the increasing number of students taking interest in such education.
He said that the State had created a vast network of educational institutions where quality infrastructural facilities to facilitate teaching of different subjects had been made available. He said that with the addition of the computer enabled educational facilities under the ICT Project .
