Changing datesheet irks MA English students at DU
New Delhi: Students of MA English at the University of Delhi (DU) have been hassled because of the frequent changes in the date-sheet for final examinations.
The date sheet has already been subjected to 6 modifications during the current semester. The last change had been made on Monday, resulting in the exasperation of MA English final year students as their exams are to begin only four days later.
Although the dates of the first and last examinations have not been changed, the dates of the examinations in between have been shuffled off and on.
A student at the university said that in the past few weeks, the dates of the examinations in between the first and last exam have been shuffled several times within the same time frame. "They can't shuffle the dates again with just four days to go for the exams," he said.
In the first date sheet that had been announced, the examinations were scheduled to begin on April 28 and end on May 13. However, the date sheet since then has been changed six times. Now, the examinations are scheduled o begin on May 13 and end on May 31.
According to the new date-sheet, students have also been given more time to prepare in between examinations, which had not been given during their first year examinations.
Another student of the university said that the last time the date sheet was changed was due to the DU exams clashing with the M.Phil. entrance examination at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). "The date sheet change because of that was justified, but this cannot be acceptable every time," the student said.
Sumanyu Satpathy, head of the English department at the university said that the varsity is not the only one to be blamed. He said that they had no choice as on or another group of students keep objecting to the date sheet.
He further added that previously, the exams used to be over by mid-May. However, this year, the date sheet has been pushed further into the summer when this is actually the time for entrance examinations in other universities, "We cannot blame the students and we are being sympathetic towards them," he said.
The current date sheet that has been formulated by the university is non-negotiable according to the varsity administration.
