IEEE – HUMANITARIAN CHALLENGE 2010 – AIYE
* Help students recognize real world/humanitarian challenges.
* Direct the creativity of the students to come up with solutions to the recognized problems, apply technology and go ahead with implementing them.
* Nurture innovative ideas of students by mentoring their implementation approach.
Scope: All Science and Technology students of India (Graduate and Undergraduate students)
Eligibility: The program is open to the students from all technical colleges of India (Graduate and Undergraduate students). Participants may compete as a team of minimum 2 and maximum 4 students.
* Participants need not be members of IEEE to apply and submit their proposals.
* If a project is granted funds, teams must include an IEEE Student Member in the lead role, other team members are preferred to be IEE Student members but not mandatory.
Protocol:
1) Invite applications for innovative project proposals that aim at solving the real world/ humanitarian challenges of their community/interest.
2) Approve applications based on quality, impact, students’ merit and availability of the mentors.
3) Grant up to INR 10000 to each approved group and try to link the project with suitable mentors from industry.
4) Project showcasing event of all the approved projects after completion.
5) Award prizes (1 first, 2 second and 3 third prizes)
6) Publish the projects on the IEEE Bangalore Section website.
7) Recommend the projects to the IEEE Foundation / Send the project teams to the Conferences on Technologies for Humanitarian Challenges.
8 ) Retain the selected projects for handing over to the next batch of students along with inviting fresh ideas.
With IEEE’s loud call to marshal technology to solve the Humanitarian challenges, Bangalore Section’s initiative to employ students to work on the projects that will benefit the humanity can come handy.
Selection Criteria:
* The winners shall be selected based on the innovation, results expected and their impact on humanity, or, on a community.
* Sustainability, reusability, transportability of the results to other parts of the world, entrepreneurship, originality, creativity and leadership shall be important but secondary evaluation factors.
Award of Grants:
* Each selected team will be awarded up to INR 10, 000 towards implementing their project. The amount will be granted to the guide or the student lead.
* The projects must be completed and final submissions should be made no longer than Final Deadline
Notification of Selection: Selected teams will be notified by phone and/or email within 7 days of the Submission Deadline. If any winner does not acknowledge receipt of the grant within seven days after being notified that he or she is selected.
Report submissions:
* All the selected teams have to submit 3 reports: initial, intermediate and the final report.
* All the reports will be considered for the evaluation.
* The report forms should be downloaded from the project website. Duly filled forms should be emailed before the submission deadlines.
* The report must include photographs of the prototype being developed.
Deadlines:
Proposal submission deadline: April 15th 2010
Selection Notification: May 1st 2010
Initial report: May 31st 2010
Intermediate report: June 31st 2010
Final report: July 30th 2010
Selection of the winners:
* Top contestants (1 first, 2 second and 3 third prizes) will be selected by a panel of experts from IEEE Bangalore Section based on the results achieved and the impact on humanity, or on a community.
* The top contestant team may be sent by the Bangalore Section to present their work in an IEEE Humanitarian Conference.
* The winners will be awarded with prizes and certificates in a suitable ceremony.
