National Cancer Institute to come up in Chennai

Chennai: Union Health Minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss announced that a world-class cancer institute, 'National Cancer Institute' has been proposed to set up in Chennai.

The announcement was made by Dr. Ramadoss here on Sunday during the alumni meet of the Madras Medical College (MMC).

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Ramadoss said, "A financial note has been prepared for the Rs.850-crore project. We are looking for 50 acres land to locate the institute."

"Rs.50 crore for the National Institute of Ageing and Rs.50 crore for the Plasma Fractionation Unit are planned for the MMC," added Dr. Ramadoss.

Dr. Ramadoss requested the alumni association of MMC to constitute a corpus of fund for improving the college on a sustainable basis.

MMC Dean T.P. Kalanidhi, former professor V. T. Balaraman and M. Arulpitchai Narayanan, secretary, Alumni Association also spoke during the meet.
