ICAR organizes 80th Annual General Meeting

New Delhi: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized its 80th Annual General Meeting here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Sharad Pawar said, "Agriculture has registered a remarkable growth of more than 4 percent during the last two years and this has been possible mainly due to technological interventions and weather-based farm advisories developed and recommended by the ICAR. Transgenic potato has been developed with higher protein content and better late blight resistance by engineering unique genes cloned from other plants.

One of the significant contributions of ICAR this year has been to steer international cooperation to control wheat rust, Ug 99.

DG, ICAR, Dr. Mangala Rai gave an account of research achievements made by the ICAR network during the year in areas ranging from collection of new genetic material from remote parts of the country to release of high-yielding varieties, livestock improvement and post harvest technology.
