TANUVAS signs MoU with Japanese institution

Chennai: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed between the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) and Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine (NCRM) at the Madras Veterinary College.

The NCRM is a Japanese institute which carries out research, training (both scientists and physicians) on clinical applications-protocol development in regenerative medicine based on cell therapeutics, with emphasis on stem cells, Progenitor cells, precursor cells and autologous cells with regenerative capability and to take them to mass clinical application, while maintaining the highest ethical and scientific values of international standards.

P. Thangaraju, Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, said, "The centre is an Indo-Japan joint-venture institute, created for taking up stem cell research. Both the institutions would jointly work towards establishing possible therapeutic modalities, especially for the crippling surgical conditions."

"Initially diseases such as spinal cord injury and tendon injuries would be given stem cell treatment", Dr. Thangaraju added.
