New Delhi: New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the practice of declaring 'Compartment / Fail' in a subject will be discontinued from the current academic session. As a part of its Examination Reforms, which will also see the implementation of the nine-point grading system, CBSE has introduced the system of awarding of 'Qualifying Certificates' to successful students. Those candidates, who obtain the qualifying grades (D and above) in all subjects excluding the Additional subject, will be awarded a Qualifying Certificate. Students who obtain grade E1 or E2 in a subject will have to improve their performance through subsequent five attempts. For example, a candidate who appeared in Board's examination in March 2010, can appear in July 2010, March 2011, July 2011, March 2012 and July 2012 only in subjects in which he / she has got grade E1 or E2 till he / she gets qualifying grades (D and above) in all the subject

India's NIIT bags awards in China

NIIT, New Delhi: NIIT, a leading IT training company in India, has bagged five Chinese awards including the one for the Most Influential IT Training Brand in China for its efforts to create well-trained world-class professionals in that country. According to the IT training major, the awards were conferred by the Chinese Society of Educational Development Strategy (CSEDS), which is under China 's ministry of education. "For over a decade now, NIIT has been involved in creation of skilled ICT manpower in China and has trained close to a hundred thousand students till date. These awards are recognition of our efforts, to create a large number of well-trained, world-class IT professionals in line with business needs for IT enterprises in the country," Vijay Thadani, chief executive of the company, said in a statement on Tuesday. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) on Wednesday extended their last date to accept online applications for their Common Admission Test (CAT) by 10 days to October 11. The decision was taken in view of several gazetted holidays in September that hampered many students' chance to apply for a seat at the premier management schools. This time, the IIMs have for the first time gone online to invite applications and conduct examinations with a tie-up with Prometric, a technology-enabled examination conducting firm. "With the large number of candidates throughout the country taking the CAT every year, the extended window will allow those who might have been inconvenienced by these holidays more time to obtain a voucher and register for the inaugural computer-based CAT 2009," the IIMs and the Prometric announced on Wednesday.
