More Education News: http://enteranceexamresults.blogspot.com/ MUMBAI: Foreign universities that would come scouting for young teachers to the Indian Institutes of Technology were conspicuously missing this recruitment season. But a range of private and deemed Indian universities from across the country did land up offering hardly attractive pay scales defined under the Sixth Pay Commission. When they were pitted against the big guns-the consulting and finance offers-the IITs realized that the PhD jinx continues to haunt them. Every tech school recorded a higher average salary figure for their BTechs as compared to their PhD fellows, most of who joined research labs or signed up for teaching positions. "It's a trend that continues. The average salary on campus is Rs 7 lakh, but the average salary for PhD candidates is less than that of the BTechs," said an IIT Bombay official. The scenario is same on every campus. The slump in the average salary for PhDs also aggravated a

Engineering college derecognised

More Education News: http://enteranceexamresults.blogspot.com/ K OLKATA: The future of around 300 students of Kingston Engineering College in Barasat becomes uncertain after the All India Council for Technical Education withdrew recognition to the college. The AICTE had issued several warnings to the college earlier against disobeying rules and regulations. This is the first time that the council has taken such an extreme step. The decision was taken on the ground that the institution has not yet acquired land conversion papers. AICTE has informed the state higher education department and West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) of its decision to derecognize the college which was granted affiliation in 2008. "There is inadequate infrastructure and the faculty is not up-to-the-mark. Moreover, there is land dispute which has possibly forced AICTE to withdraw recognition," said a higher education department official. Now, AICTE has instructed WBUT to request the higher educa

Placement 2010 at IIT-Bombay has shown that jobs in core engineering firms were this year's flavour. "Earlier, a larger proportion of students joined the IT sector, no matter what their primary area of specialization was. This year, there was synchronization between what they studied and the industry they joined," said IIT-B placement head Ravi Sinha. Management consulting was the third best option, followed by finance, both of which come with the big bucks. While the number of offers in the finance sector went up from 70 to 91 over an academic year, around 95 offers were made by the consulting sector to IIT-B students. Sixty-nine students took offers from the research and development (R&
