UGC to set up national ragging helpline by June 15

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday issued guidelines for a national call centre to be set up to enable ragging victims from across the country to register their complaints by dialling a toll free number. "The Education Consultancy India Ltd (ECIL) has been entrusted with the job of setting up of the national call centre. By June 15, it will be operational," UGC Chairman Sukhadeo Thorat told sources on Wednesday. The helpline will be equipped with software that will pass on the complaints directly to the head of the institution within 15 minutes to help the administration protect the victims. Thorat said the helpline will operate around the clock and the UGC will monitor its functioning. Under the anti-ragging laws, student offenders can be fined up to Rs.250,000 or rusticated for one to four semesters if found guilty of ragging. CBSE helpline flooded with calls from anxious students

New Delhi: A day before the class 12 results are declared, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) helplines on Thursday were flooded with phone calls from anxious students and parents. As many as 37 principals, trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated government and private schools, psychologists and social scientists are operating these telephone helplines, interactive voice response system (IVRS) and online counseling individually from Wednesday. These helplines will be functional till June 3. "The response from students has been tremendous. I have lost count of the number of calls I have got since morning. Students are asking several questions as some of them are not satisfied with their performance and are scared of what might happen," Geetanjali Kumar, a professional career counsellor, told sources. According to counsellors, the parents of students are more anxious than their children and are burdening them with the weight of their expectations. "I have see

Anxious about board results - Call CBSE helpline

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday launched telephonic counselling to help students overcome anxiety and stress after the board results. As a part of the board's outreach programme this year, the CBSE started telephonic counselling, interactive voice response system (IVRS) and online counselling through its website. "The students can call the telephone helpline from 8 a.m. to midnight from Wednesday to June 3. Psychological help will be provided to the students during this time to cope with post-result situations successfully," CBSE public relation officer Rama Sharma said. The CBSE will declare class 12 board exam results on May 22. There are about 18 helpline centres in India and three abroad - Dubai, Doha-Qatar and Kuwait. "As many as 37 principals, trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated government and private schools, psychologists and social scientists will operate these telephone helplines individually," Sharma said.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will announce the results of Senior School Certificate Examination 2009 (Class XII) 2009 on Friday i.e May 22 at 10 am IST. Girls outshine boys in CBSE 12th result

CHANDIGARH: Girls have left the boys way behind in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examination held in the month of March/April covering states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory Chandigarh, the results of which were declared on Wednesday. While the overall pass percentage for the boys is 77.56 per cent, the girls are way ahead at 86.24 per cent. A total of 1,04,873 students had taken the examination. "The overall pass percentage is 81.20 per cent," CBSE's Panchkula-based centre's Joint Secretary, D R Yadava said. The overall pass percentage is down from 83.57 per cent in 2007, though it has slightly improved from last year's 80.80 per cent. Giving the school-wise performance, he said the Kendriya Vidyalaya got a pass percentage of 90.98 per cent; Government schools got 78.88 per cent while Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Independent Schools have the pass percentage of 94.52 per cent and 80.88 per c

NEW DELHI: The class 12 results of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be declared May 22, officials said on Tuesday. The board exam results will be uploaded on the CBSE website www.cbse.nic.in at 10 a.m. Thursday, said CBSE public relation officer Rama Sharma. However, the results of Ajmer, Chennai and Panchkula regions shall be declared Wednesday. Students can get the results on their e-mail addresses by registering themselves on websites - www.results.nic.in and www.cbseresults.nic.in. The schools can also get their entire results by registering on these websites and giving their school code and e-mail address, said Sharma. The individual results can also be checked on the websites - mtnldelhi.in and bol.net.in. IIFM join hands with US institutes to offer joint MBAs

Mumbai: In collaboration with the Thomas Jefferson School of Law (TJSL), ranked amongst the top 10 law schools in the world, the Indian Institute of Financial Management (IIFM) has launched its Mumbai campus to offer joint MBAs. The first is a two-year MBA plus MS degree in business law in partnership with the Thomas Jefferson School of Law (TJSL) and the second degree is being offered jointly by the American Academy of Financial Management (AAFM), the largest financial education institution in the world at lower costs. The degree is an MBA combined with globally upheld certifications of CWM (Chartered Wealth Management) and E-commerce. DU helpline flooded with calls

New Delhi: The admission helpline launched by Delhi University (DU) from last Monday flooded with calls from students to know details of the programme offered by the varsity. Out of all offered courses, DU gets most calls from students regarding Journalism and Mass Communication, which seems most sought after subjects at DU. While Hindi and English journalism are taught at a few colleges, only Indraprastha College for Women offers a degree course in Mass Media and Mass Communication. "We have received several queries from students to know about the entrance examination and how to apply for Journalism and Mass Communication," said Ravneet Kaur, a student counsellor manning the helpline. New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) might increase the number of seats available in B. Com Honours (Hons) The varsity may likely shift the B.Com programme, initially known as B.Com (pass) to the School of Open Learning (SOL) and add the seats to it. "The final decision has to be taken yet and the proposal will be submitted before the Academic Council soon which will take a decision," Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deepak Pental said. The B.Com programme was introduced four years back as a modified version of the B.Com (Pass) course by the university.
