HYDERABAD – NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ESGB – DPS

The true meaning of democracy lies in the empowerment of the people. While most countries in the world have claimed that they have moved on to adopting democracy as their system of governance, most have fallen short when it comes to the real and complete empowerment of all sections of their societies. Major sections of society only make do with the right to vote as the only proof of their being empowered. This reality is even starker in the case of newer democracies such as India. Traditional social hierarchies coupled with newer stratifications have ensured that empowerment is unevenly distributed among the various sections of the Indian population. The problems of enclave development inherited at the time of independence from colonialism and their persistence till today, attitudes of ineq
