New Delhi: The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009 first hit headlines for the continued technical glitches that marred the conduct of the all-important exam. Now, after the second phase of the exam, it's the results of the entrance exam which has brought it back into the news. The CAT 2009 results, which were expected to be out by the third week of February, have now been delayed with an official from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) confirming that, "They are expected to be out only by February end." The results were first expected to be declared in the third week of February. However, the CAT website was recently updated with the message that the results will come out only in the month-end. Due to various technical glitches, which dented the image of CAT 2009 that went online for the first time, the authorities were forced to conduct a re-test a few days back, which is why, the hold up in declaration of results for a lot of candidates has come as a fi

MUMBAI: The Indian Institutes of Management have decided to upload CAT score cards on Sunday but this time, too, they are not able to tell the exact time. Officers in the CAT office, however, were sure the scores would be released on February 28. Individual IIMs will then send out call letters to shortlisted students for phase two, which comprises group discussion, personal interview and essay-writing. Earlier, CAT officials had assured students and other B-schools that CAT scores would be out before the weekend. "But on Friday, IIM officials informed us they were taking time to upload pictures of lakhs of candidates. They said the process of uploading each and every score card online would be completed only by Sunday," said a director of a B-school.

New Delhi: India is offering 416 fellowships to African researchers in top Indian institutions in areas from biotechnology to forestry. "We not only want to intensify relations at political and trade level with Africa, but also at the scientific and academic level," Science and Technology Minister Prithviraj Chavan said here on Friday, launching the C.V. Raman International Fellowship for African Researchers. Eight fellowships, in three categories, will be offered to each African country - making a total of 416. The three categories are of senior fellowship of one-month duration, visiting fellowship of three months duration and a postdoctoral fellowship of six months to one year. The objective of the fellowships will be to provide opportunity to conduct, under the guidance of their host in India, collaborative research in universities and other Indian institutions in various areas of science and technology. Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government will soon set up a child rights commission, an official said here on Friday. The decision was taken after a class six student of George High School of Bargarh district, Ajay Kumar Jena, was killed on February 16 after being beaten by a school teacher. "The state government has decided to set up a child rights commission soon. The proposed commission would ensure the rights of children. The commission would register complaints related to child rights," said G.V.V. Sharma, secretary of the Women and Child Development Department. The commission would have six members including two women. The commission would take up cases related to child rights violations. IANS

Cairo: Nearly half of Egypt's children live on less than $2 a day, a new study by Unicef, the UN agency for children, said in a report published on Thursday. Despite significant progress millions of children in the North African country still face "serious deprivations", Unicef said. "It is important to look at how poverty is affecting their lives and how we can address it, because a child who lives in poverty rarely gets a second chance at an education or a healthy start in life," Unicef Mideast director Sigrid Kaag said. The report, conducted for Unicef by researchers at Cairo University working under the supervision of Egyptian Minister of State for Family and Population Moushira Khattab, found that more than 7 million Egyptian children suffer from inadequate nutrition, water and sanitation, basic health care and shelter. Researchers also found that girls were less likely than boys to attend school or complete their education, particularly in rural areas. Uni

IJAS’ conference at Harvard University proudly introduces four New England states as potential study abroad destinations. The conference location is the intellectual heart and soul of New England. Delegates will have access to complimentary private tours to the larger Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island. Boston is the historic bastion of American democracy and has not ceased to surprise since its first impromptu tea party. During the summer months, academic conferences flourish and multiply in the multi-ethnic city and IJAS invites you to enjoy it all with fellow professors and students. This is a region rich in academic advancement. On a per capita basis, no other capital city in the United States has as many university graduates residing within it. Boston is a celebration for the open academic mind. Our hope is that this experience will spark an interest in some of our delegates to one day host a visit to this region for international students. If HRD minister Kapil Sibal has been pushing for some time to reduce the enormous stress placed on India's school-leaving students, the proposal to hold a single entrance exam for medical and engineering colleges from 2013 should go some way towards achieving this. The move will reduce the number of entrance exams aspiring medical and engineering students in the country typically have to face. And it's going to be helped by a complementary reform, the adoption of a uniform math and science curriculum across the country, whether students are in a school affiliated to CBSE, ISCE or one of the state boards. Such a curriculum would give a common platform to students intending to take the entrance tests.

The Institute of Mathematical Sciences has a limited programme for highly motivated bachelor’s and master’s students interested in doing theoretical work in Physics to visit the Institute. This is typically for any 6 weeks in the 2 months during the summer (May-July). * This is a limited programme, depending on the availability of infrastructure facilities and faculty guides. * We typically select about 10-15 students. The AICPA/Accountemps Student Scholarship program provides financial assistance to students who are majoring in accounting, finance, or information systems. These awards are intended to encourage students to consider careers in accounting and business. AICPA and RHI/Accountemps staff and their family members are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Eligibility Requirements: 1. I am a declared accounting, finance, or information systems major. 2. I will be a full-time undergraduate (12 semester hours or equivalent) or a full-time master’s level student (9 semester hours or equivalent) at an accredited college or university in the United States for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011. 3. I have completed at least 30 semester hours (or equivalent) of college coursework, including at least 6 semester hours (or equivalent) in accounting. 4. I have maintained an overall GPA and major GPA of at least 3.0. 5. I am a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Green Card holder). 6. I am not presently a CPA
