Delhi to get 450 more MBBS seats in 2 yrs

The decade-old exam, a qualifying test for getting admissions into business schools run by IITs and the Indian Institute of Science, has now given way to the Common Admission Test (CAT), promoted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). IIMs are elated at the growing popularity of CAT. In a maze of over a dozen management qualifying examinations, CAT is the only one that attracts a few lakh aspirants every year. “It’s heartening to see quality institutes like IITs too joining the bandwagon to accepting CAT as a qualifying examination. As per the research section of University of Rajasthan, a notification has been issued by University Grants Commission (UGC) informing that students who have cleared national eligibility test (NET) or state level eligibility test (SLET) will also have to appear and clear MPAT to get registered for studying Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD). Research deputy registrar Dr Neelu Mahajan while giving details informed that the university's norm would start from this year. Confirming the decision, UGC official said that "Last year relaxation was given to NET and SLET candidates; however, this year they will have to appear in pre-Phd entrance" Many university professors however, feel that there is no need to include NET/SLET cleared candidates in the pre-PhD exam.

The database would facilitate online verification of academic awards issued by the CBSE thereby removing attempts made to use fake/forged academic certificates. For the first time ever, the internship will also include a three-month compulsory rural posting. Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has approved the re-introduction of a one-year rotational, compulsory and paid internship in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course. The course will be for four years along with an additional one-year internship. Though the new norm would be implemented from this academic year (2011-12), it would be applicable for batches admitted in the 2008-09 session. In 2007, the Dental Council of India (DCI) had made the BDS degree a five-year "all classroom" course, dropping the need for any hands-on training with patients.
