Category-B Direct Admission to Ph.D Programme
The university admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D programme either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by each centre/school both in Monsoon and winter semesters in all Schools/Centres
In addition direct admission to Ph.D is also offered in centre for Comparative Politics and Political Theory, Adult Education, Women’s Studies and Study of Discrimination and Exclusion
Candidates are required to check the availability of seats in each centre/school before applying for admission in winter semester
Candidates are advised to refer to the admission announcement being notified separately
Category-C Admission of JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D Programme in Science Schools
The university admits a limited number of candidates to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D programmes either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by each school who have qualified a national test entitling them to a JRF in schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer and Systems Sciences, Computational and Integrative Sciences and Biotechnology
Eligibility: Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D programmes through entrance examination under category A above in above Science Schools and have qualified a national test entitling them to a JRF are eligible to apply
Category-D Part-time Programmes
The university will hold entrance examination (in Delhi centre only) for admission to certificate of
Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu a one-year part-time programmes of study in the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies
Since these are part-time programmes, these are intended for candidates residing in Delhi NCR only
Admission to Diploma of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma of Proficiency will be made on basis of the past academic record of the candidate which will be assessed in accordance with the criteria laid down by the university for selection
Programmes of Study: Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu, Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto, Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto and Bahasa Indonesia, Certificate of Proficiency in Mongolian, Pushto, Bahasa Indonesia and Urdu

Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu: A Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks in aggregate with Urdu as one of the subjects at High School or Intermediate or B.A. Level
Advanced Diploma of Proficiency: Senior school certificate, (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate and Diploma of Proficiency in language concerned

Foreign Nationals: All foreign nationals present in India are required to appear in the entrance examination subject to their fulfilling minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for Indian students as indicated under Category ‘A’ above
However, in the event of their selection, they will be considered for admission subject to equivalence of their degrees as per eligibility requirements
Reservation of seats: 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non creamy layer); 15% and 7.5% of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates respectively in all programmes of study; 3% seats are reserved for Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates (with a minimum of 40% disability)
All SC/ST/Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates who have passed and/or are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to appear in the entrance examination irrespective of their percentage of marks
Besides, all candidates who have passed qualifying examination prescribed for admission to the concerned programme of study from the identified backward districts, will be eligible for deprivation points
All Kashmiri Migrants and wards/widows of certain categories of Defence personnel will be eligible for deprivation points subject to their submitting a documentary evidence of their status (for details, refer to chapter V of prospectus)
All female candidates are also eligible for deprivation points
Only those candidates will be eligible for deprivation points as stated above who seek admission through entrance examination
There is a different application form for each category i.e. Category ‘A’ and Category ‘D’ (admission through entrance examination), Category ‘B’ (direct admission to Ph.D programmes) and Category ‘C’ (admission of JRF holders)
Candidates should therefore clearly indicate on the self addressed envelope, the category for which the application form is required by them
For admission through entrance examination under Category-A above and certificate of Proficiency (part-time programme) under Category-D above, candidates can opt upto a maximum of three Fields of Study in a single application form for the same level of Programmes i.e. COP (part-time) or B.A. (Hons) (1st year) or M.A./M.Sc/MCA or M.Phil/Ph.D, Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D, M.Tech/Ph.D, M.P.H./Ph.D, and are not required to submit separate application forms for each field of study
In case a candidate submits more than one application form for the same level of programmes of study, his/her candidature will be rejected
However, this restriction will not apply to candidates who apply for direct admission to Ph.D programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D programmes under Category-C above and Diploma/Advanced Diploma of Proficiency (part-time programmes) under Category-D above
Candidates are required to submit separate application form for each Field of Study for admission to B.A. (Hons) 2nd year under category A above, direct admission to Ph.D programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D under Category-C above and for Diploma and Advanced Diploma (part-time) programmes under Category-D above

On-line application: Candidates can apply on-line on payment of prescribed fee if they have access to a computer, a printer and Internet by logging on to JNU website www.jnu.ac.in, www.jnuonline.in
The sites have been designed in a user friendly way to help candidates for applying on-line in a step-by-step fashion
Online application portal will remain open from 10.00 a.m. (IST) on 6th February, 2012 till 5.00 p.m. (IST) on 21st March, 2012
Off-line application: Set of application form and prospectus can be obtained through post by sending crossed bank draft for Rs 300/- (Rs three hundred only) drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi alongwith a self addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cmsx25 cms clearly indicating the programme of study for which the application form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the Section Officer (admissions), Room No-28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067
Candidates seeking a set of application form and prospectus from Nepal are required to send a demand draft of Rs 400/- or equivalent in US Dollars
Money orders and cheques are not accepted

BPL card holders will be issued a set of application form and prospectus free of cost on submission of a copy of the BPL card issued by the competent authority showing their name in the card

Category-B Direct Admission to Ph.D Programme
The university admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D programme either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by each centre/school both in Monsoon and winter semesters in all Schools/Centres
In addition direct admission to Ph.D is also offered in centre for Comparative Politics and Political Theory, Adult Education, Women’s Studies and Study of Discrimination and Exclusion
Candidates are required to check the availability of seats in each centre/school before applying for admission in winter semester
Candidates are advised to refer to the admission announcement being notified separately
Category-C Admission of JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D Programme in Science Schools
The university admits a limited number of candidates to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D programmes either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by each school who have qualified a national test entitling them to a JRF in schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer and Systems Sciences, Computational and Integrative Sciences and Biotechnology
Eligibility: Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D programmes through entrance examination under category A above in above Science Schools and have qualified a national test entitling them to a JRF are eligible to apply
Category-D Part-time Programmes
The university will hold entrance examination (in Delhi centre only) for admission to certificate of
Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu a one-year part-time programmes of study in the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies
Since these are part-time programmes, these are intended for candidates residing in Delhi NCR only
Admission to Diploma of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma of Proficiency will be made on basis of the past academic record of the candidate which will be assessed in accordance with the criteria laid down by the university for selection

Foreign Nationals: All foreign nationals present in India are required to appear in the entrance examination subject to their fulfilling minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for Indian students as indicated under Category ‘A’ above
However, in the event of their selection, they will be considered for admission subject to equivalence of their degrees as per eligibility requirements
Reservation of seats: 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non creamy layer); 15% and 7.5% of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates respectively in all programmes of study; 3% seats are reserved for Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates (with a minimum of 40% disability)
All SC/ST/Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates who have passed and/or are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to appear in the entrance examination irrespective of their percentage of marks
Besides, all candidates who have passed qualifying examination prescribed for admission to the concerned programme of study from the identified backward districts, will be eligible for deprivation points
All Kashmiri Migrants and wards/widows of certain categories of Defence personnel will be eligible for deprivation points subject to their submitting a documentary evidence of their status (for details, refer to chapter V of prospectus)
All female candidates are also eligible for deprivation points
Only those candidates will be eligible for deprivation points as stated above who seek admission through entrance examination
There is a different application form for each category i.e. Category ‘A’ and Category ‘D’ (admission through entrance examination), Category ‘B’ (direct admission to Ph.D programmes) and Category ‘C’ (admission of JRF holders)
Candidates should therefore clearly indicate on the self addressed envelope, the category for which the application form is required by them
For admission through entrance examination under Category-A above and certificate of Proficiency (part-time programme) under Category-D above, candidates can opt upto a maximum of three Fields of Study in a single application form for the same level of Programmes i.e. COP (part-time) or B.A. (Hons) (1st year) or M.A./M.Sc/MCA or M.Phil/Ph.D, Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D, M.Tech/Ph.D, M.P.H./Ph.D, and are not required to submit separate application forms for each field of study
In case a candidate submits more than one application form for the same level of programmes of study, his/her candidature will be rejected
However, this restriction will not apply to candidates who apply for direct admission to Ph.D programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D programmes under Category-C above and Diploma/Advanced Diploma of Proficiency (part-time programmes) under Category-D above
Candidates are required to submit separate application form for each Field of Study for admission to B.A. (Hons) 2nd year under category A above, direct admission to Ph.D programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D and Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D under Category-C above and for Diploma and Advanced Diploma (part-time) programmes under Category-D above

On-line application: Candidates can apply on-line on payment of prescribed fee if they have access to a computer, a printer and Internet by logging on to JNU website www.jnu.ac.in, www.jnuonline.in
The sites have been designed in a user friendly way to help candidates for applying on-line in a step-by-step fashion
Online application portal will remain open from 10.00 a.m. (IST) on 6th February, 2012 till 5.00 p.m. (IST) on 21st March, 2012
Off-line application: Set of application form and prospectus can be obtained through post by sending crossed bank draft for Rs 300/- (Rs three hundred only) drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi alongwith a self addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cmsx25 cms clearly indicating the programme of study for which the application form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the Section Officer (admissions), Room No-28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067
Candidates seeking a set of application form and prospectus from Nepal are required to send a demand draft of Rs 400/- or equivalent in US Dollars
