New Delhi: Delhi University is all set to make the admission process more transparent and fair from the next academic session. To facilitate this, a high-powered committee of 12 principals from different colleges has been formed to review the overall admission process.
SK Garg, principal of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, has been appointed the convener of the committee, while it will be chaired by Deepak Malhotra, principal of Dyal Singh College (evening).
Dinesh Singh, vice-chancellor, DU said that a high-powered committee has been set up for the first time in DU which will oversee the admission process for all categories of students, including those under the reserved categories, sports and ECA.
University officials said that fee structure and student-teachers' ratio are also some other grey areas that the new committee may look into.
The committee has appointed principals from other colleges such as Bhagini Nivedita, Indraprastha College, Kalindi College, Kamla Nehru, LSR, Maitreyi, Miranda House, SRCC, Shivaji College.
Vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh further added that the committee will have full powers to device ways and means of conducting admissions in DU. They will examine the current admission process and if they feel, then necessary changes will be introduced to make the process more transparent.
Ujjaini Ray, professor, LSR College said that the teachers in DU have welcomed the move, claiming that a review in the admission procedure was imperative. And the most important change that needs to be brought into effect is some sort of an application form so that we get an idea of how many students are applying for a particular course, she added.
