BANGALORE: Students staying outside Bangalore and aspiring to take the post-graduate entrance test (PGET) conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) may be inconvenienced from next year. For, authorities have planned to conduct such tests only in Bangalore.

"Earlier, we'd hold PGET in eight centres across the state apart from Bangalore, enabling more students to take the muchsought-after exam. But after major irregularities were unearthed in some centres outside Bangalore , we've been forced to do away with it to ensure transparency," medical education minister S A Ramdas said on Monday.

Cracking the PGET scam that rocked admission to postgraduate courses run by RGUHS, CID has arrested 17 people , including top varsity officials and nine candidates.

While two candidates - Dr Shilpa and Dr Hari Dattatreya - are absconding, CID is yet to identify the eight experts who helped assistant professor Vinayaka Prasanna of Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Bellary. The latter is also at large after getting anticipatory bail from court. Ramdas said CCTVs will be installed at all exam centres in Bangalore from next year to cover the entire process - right from receipt of question paper to the packing of OMR sheets - besides banning use of mobile phones and other gadgets by staff.
