Bangalore: The Indian education sector has been undergoing a transformation over the past decade and is one of the fastest growing segments in the country. In this light, Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK), one of India's leading global B schools is organizing a 4 day Leadership workshop that will help discover and bring out the untapped leadership potential in individuals. The workshop scheduled to be held during 17th - 20th Oct 2011, will be conducted by Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK who is an internationally renowned author and a CEO Coach. This workshop aims to bring together some of the finest talents in the managerial and corporate world including school principals. Well known Directors and Vice Presidents of leading companies like Brittania, Binani Industries, Eduspire, HSBC and Avembsys are participating in this unique, intensive and highly interactive workshop.

IIMK has consistently supported initiatives towards moulding and globalizing budding Indian thought leaders. According to Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK, "US is still the foremost voice in higher education, but India and China will have both the voice and the invoice in the future." He also reaffirmed that wisdom of India will find its way overseas.

Prof. Chatterjee was one of the key note speakers at the 1st Indo-US Higher Education Summit held on October 13, 2011 in Washington DC at Georgetown University, jointly hosted by the Govt. of India and the Govt. of United States. The key emphasis was on education as one of the primary pillars of the India-US strategic partnership. He commented upon the Indian education system's revival and sustenance by conducting more research through learning. Few of the key points discussed at the summit are as below:

1. Architecture of education in the 21st century, where government creates the highway and private sector creates the content.

2. U.S. universities in partnership with Indian universities and industries can engage in R&D at one-third the cost.

3. Indian private sector can invest in creating the infrastructure for setting up new universities and faculty and scholars from the U.S. can then operate from that facility in India.

4. US companies like Boeing, Motorola and Ford that have large operations in India should invest in establishing educational institutions in their respective fields where both Indian and U.S. students can study.

5. The Government of India can fund capital infrastructure in private sector where businesses will invest by employing highly qualified PhDs. This support can be extended to US companies in India as well with the support of the U.S. Government.

This historic Summit forged a new collaborative association which is global and paves the path for a better future. The education system is hauled to go through a lot of radical changes in the near future with the nature of delivery of educational services changing rapidly. Technology has started facilitating collaborative learning where classrooms of the 21st century will be different. The content of pedagogy too would be altered since customized learning across cultures will be the dominant theme of higher education.

There is a need to establish the university as a learning space, embrace collaborative knowledge production, and break down the walls between institutions. For example, an engineering student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) can register for a liberal arts course offered by Yale while simultaneously enrolling for an economics course in Stanford. The university as a physical entity may no longer remain the unit of learning space.

To take off with this new pedagogy, IIMK takes a small step by launching its website for Executive Post Graduate Programme (ePGP) which bagged the AMBA accreditation in 2011, an interactive distance learning module for working professionals.
