New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will soon be launching a culinary arts institute to set the highest parameters of culinary research, development and documentation, a varsity official said on Tuesday.
IGNOU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sweden's Gothenburg University, Sweden for the Institute of Culinary Arts (ICA), which would be set up by July 2012.
"Our focus is to provide ready to train workers for the kitchen. The manpower would have all types of domain skills and knowledge and fit into different job positions and resource categories of the industry," said B.K. Goswami, advisor for the ICA.
"The kitchen of the R&D (research and development) centre will be built like an amphitheater for photography and training purposes," he added.
As per the varsity, the ICA will be launched with three-year degree programmes in Culinary Arts, Culinary Management and Catering Technology and one year Diploma Programmes in Food Production and Patisserie as well as Food Processing.
"You don't have to choose what type of trend is prevalent right now as food is never out of fashion. The beauty of starting this initiative is that you have a wide platform," said Ulf Hanning of Gothenburg's education department. IANS
