CBSE students yet to get marksheets, can’t start applying
MUMBAI: Even as Class-X students are busy applying to junior colleges of their choice, CBSE Class-X students are anxiously waiting for their original marksheets, without which they cannot apply to any college. Schools have been receiving numerous calls from parents and students but they are as helpless since the CBSE board has not yet commented on the status of marksheets.
"We have tried to contact board authorities almost every day and also contacted officials at the Chennai region office (which handles Maharashtra schools), but all to no avail. We have still not got any response from the authorities. Our parents are really anxious," said the principal of a CBSE school. Parents are worried that their wards' admission forms might not get approved without originals of the marksheets.
The worst affected are those who want to apply to junior colleges under various quotas. The admission process for these has already begun and most colleges will be announcing their first merit lists (offline) by July 1 and the procedure will end on July 7. "My son wants to seek admission to SIES College under the minority quota but the college will ask for marksheets before confirming his admission. Even our school principal is not being very helpful," said a mother. Even parents have been trying unsuccessfully to contact CBSE authorities.
For the time being, schools are taking printouts of the online score cards of students and attesting the same on school letter heads. "We have been following this process to help students start applying to colleges. So far, we haven't received any complaints from parents and we are hoping that the marksheets will be delivered soon," said Seema Maindiratta, principal of DAV International School in Kharghar. She added the new results format might be delaying the marksheets.
Despite repeated attempts to contact CBSE director Vineet Joshi through calls as well as smses, he remained unavailable for comments.
