Stephen's to provide accommodation to parents during admissions
New Delhi: St. Stephen's College is going to do its best this year to ensure that the admission procedure is a smooth sailing for both aspirants and their parents who have come to Delhi to seek admission to the prestigious college.
This is a first of its kind move by the college to provide accommodation to both aspirants and their parents during the admission season.
K.M. Matthew, tutor for admission at St. Stephen's College said that parents come from different parts of the country to get their children admitted to St. Stephen's and hence it would be more convenient for them if they could stay at the college premises itself.
Only 40 rooms at the hostels will be made available for parents in the beginning. The college is also working on plans to charge a nominal amount for the accommodation that will be provided. This will be decided and posted online in a few days.
The admission procedure at the college had begun on Wednesday. Till now, the college has already received applications from 9000 students who have applied for admission for the 10 courses that are offered by the institution.
The accommodations will be ready by the second week of June. The hostel had previously been refurbished last year for the Commonwealth Games.
Matthew said that he hostels will be inhabited by the students till the first week of June as they had their examinations till then. "Parents will be allowed to move in to the hostels once the list for interviews is put up," he said.
