South Indians steal honors at Civil Services Main Results 2010

New Delhi: The results of the most important and prestigious examination, amongst various examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the Civil Services (Main) Examination were announced on Tuesday, May 11, 2011.

This year 5,47,698 candidates applied for the Civil Service Examinations and finally 920 candidates (717 male and 203 female) have been recommended for appointment to the IAS, IFS, IPS and other Central Services.

It is noticeable that the Top 3 positions in the merit list have been occupied by candidates hailing from Southern India.

S.Divyadharshini (Roll No.014421), a female candidate, from Chennai has topped the Civil Services Examination, 2010. She has done her B.A., B.L.(Hons.) from Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai. This was her second attempt.

Sweta Mohanty (Roll No.316736) again from South India is the second ranker. She has done her B.Tech (Computer Science) from GRIET, JNTU, Hyderabad and this was her third attempt.

R.V. Varun Kumar (Roll No.021490), who is the topper among male candidates and has secured overall third rank is from Chennai again. He has done BDS from Ragas Dental College, Chennai and this was also his third attempt.

Other than these top 3 candidates, the top 25 candidates consist of 20 males and 5 females. AMong them 15 are Engineers, 5 candidates belong to Commerce, Management, Humanities, Science & Social Sciences; and 5 candidates are from Medical Science background.

And of the 920 candidates recommended, 28 are physically challenged candidates, 14 orthopaedically challenged, 5 visually impaired and 9 are hearing impaired.
