City girl tops All-India PMT exams

CHANDIGARH: City girl Harsimar Kaur was fast asleep when her chemistry teacher called to tell her that she had topped the All-India PMT examination conducted by the CBSE. The result was announced on Monday late evening.

It was around 10.30pm when the cellphone rang in house number 1246 in Sector 43, prompting Harsimar's family members to erupt into ecstasy.

"I was expecting a rank among top 50 but bagging first position was a big surprise. It took me some time to realise I had actually topped in the country," said Harsimar (17) who wants to be a cardiologist.

Her parents — Ravinderjeet Kaur and Manmeet Singh — are planning to celebrate their daughter's success on Tuesday.

Ravinderjeet, who is an employed with the LIC, said her daughter's achievement has again proved that girls are no less than boys.

Manmeet, an engineer with Punjab PWD, said he knew his daughter would stand out and today he is proud of her achievement.

For Harsimar, her parents are her role models who motivated her to achieve success in life.

In her class-XI examination, she had scored 93.4% marks. "My success mantra is study hard and stay determined," she said.

Apart from working hard to achieve her goal, Harsimar has learnt Indian classical dance. "For me dance is a medium to beat stress," she said.

In her medical examination, she has scored 230 out of 240 in biology, while in physics and chemistry she has scored 115, each out of 120. "I am going to be the first doctor in my family," said a beaming Harsimar.

Apart from her, those from Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali who made the Tricity proud include Anshit Goyal, who has bagged 7th rank, Himanshu Gupta with 10th rank, Sanchit who secured 32nd rank and Tejeshwer who came 43.
