CAT rush: IIM results start pouring in

CHANDIGARH: The highly-awaited final results from IIMs are finally pouring in. The long wait of thousands of IIM aspirants is almost over. IIM Ahmedabad was the first institute to announce the final admission list for 2011-2013 session.

By evening, out of 10 IIMs that have conducted group discussions and rounds of interview; results lists of IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta were available. So far, more than 20 students from the city have converted to these three premier institutes and many others are anticipating converting calls. Most successful pupils from the region are from top engineering colleges in and around Tricity.

In January, IIMs had declared their written test results and more than 130 candidates from Chandigarh have received calls from various IIMs.

Visibly ecstatic Arshdeep Kaur who is also the region's CAT topper has converted IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta and XLRI, said, ''I am on the top of the world. It took a lot of dedication, diligence, hard work and motivation to get these calls. I hope to convert other colleges as well.''

The stepping stone to a career in management ' CAT Exam ' is one of the prime requisites for the thousands of management aspirants in India. With three new IIMs opened this year, there are in all 13 IIMs in India. Last year, IIM Ranchi, IIM Rohtak and IIM Raipur were started. This year IIM Tiruchirappallai, IIM Udaipur and IIM Kashipur were added. Over 1.86 lakh candidates appeared for CAT 2010 held between October 27 and November 24. More than 10,000 aspirants took the CAT exam from the region. Out of 13 IIMs, most declared the calls for GD/PI in January. IIM Udaipur and IIM Kashipur are yet to announce the list of shortlisted candidates.

This year's results reveal that girls have outperformed boys. The top two percentile holders are girls, said Punam Soni, senior verbal trainer at Bulls Eye. For those who have not got a call from the coveted IIM's, there is still hope. Panjab University's UBS has not yet declared the results. The expected cut-off percentile this year is expected to be lower because of fewer applications, a source said.
