KARNATAKA – WWTEI NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2011 – UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE

Since late 80’s there is an increasing trend in work participation of women all over the world and same is the case with India. Though there is a greater participation of women in agriculture sector, the participation of women in non-agriculture sector is increasing both in rural and urban areas. More and more women are working in what are suppose to be non traditional jobs like security, bus drivers/ conductors, hotel waiters and petrol pump attenders etc. Majority of the women workers are in unorganized sector. Another phenomenon is that more women are self employed either in agriculture or non agriculture. With greater emphasis on economic empowerment of women, women are engaging themselves in self employment through micro enterprises.
