UNIVERSITY OF KOTA – M.SC WILDLIFE SCIENCE ADMISSION 2010 – KOTA
Environmental Science, remote sensing, landscape ecology and conservation genetics are relatively new subjects in any university in India. Universities traditionally offer only a few specialized papers at M.Sc. level studying about the biodiversity and causes of degrading nature, but very few courses integrate ecology with a variety of related subjects to form a single discipline. This course at University of Kota attempts to integrate scientific “model course” to train wildlife biologists in the country. Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun is the first to start this course; there are four other institutions in India which offer a post-graduation degree in wildlife science.
Rajasthan is a haven for a wide spectrum of wildlife. The topography of Rajasthan ranges from the barren desert, scrub-thorn arid forests, rocks and ravines to wetlands and lush, green forests. And each of these areas houses a large variety of animal and bird life, some of them rare while some endangered. Rajasthan is the home of the tigers, black bucks, chinkara, the rare desert fox, the endangered caracal, the great Indian bustard, gavial, monitor lizard, wild boars, and porcupine. Migratory birds like the common crane, ducks, coots, pelicans and the rare Siberian cranes, imperial sand grouse, falcons, buzzard’s flocks to this state during the winter months. Typical areas representing each of the ecosystems have been earmarked as special areas for wildlife. Rajasthan boasts of five National Parks and twenty-three Sanctuaries. Growing need of awareness in wildlife science has triggered University of Kota to initiate the degree course at Kota (Rajasthan). This course at University of Kota will be the first institute to start the course in Rajasthan. The department will run under the self financing scheme in the University. Eminent Professors, Scientist and senior officers from Indian Forest Services will be invited to deliver lectures and interact with the students.
Students adopting this course will be benefited and in qualifying the Indian Forest Services test. Over 2 lakh jobs are offered every year to the students who do Post Graduation in Wildlife science in India. Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations look forward for students who do M.Sc in wildlife science for research and wildlife management.
Duration : 2 years (Four Semesters)
Intake : 20 Seats
Eligibility : B.Sc. with Botany/ Zoology/ Agriculture/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry/Microbiology/ Forestry and Veterinary from any University recognized by UGC with 50% marks (for SC/ST/OBC/SOBC 45%).
