Duration: Two years
Eligibility: Any integrated First Degree of BITS or its equivalent;
M.B.B.S., B.D.S, M.Sc. (Nursing) or their equivalent.
Admission Procedure: Admissions will be made on all-India basis strictly according to merit. Employed / sponsored candidates, working in public health area will be given preference. Short listed candidates will be called for test and interviews to be conducted at Pilani. The objective of the written paper is to test your strength in basic knowledge and skill in some of the fundamental courses such as basic science, basic mathematics, basic health awareness, communication skills and reasoning, interpersonal skills, environmental awareness, psychology, sociology and basic computer skills.
Programme Description:
Core Courses: 12
Elective courses: 03 (from a pool of elective courses)
1. Core courses designed to develop analytical skills and knowledge in key areas of public health. The course work will be conducted high contact classes as well as field training and in field assignment.
2. Dissertation.
3. Apart from intense classroom teaching the course design emphasizes learning through assignments and field trainings. In the first three semesters the field trainings will include structured rotations with specific assignments related to core courses and electives. Field training and a choice of electives will train the students in tackling practical situations in different aspects of Public Health.
4. In the fourth semester the students will participate in current and ongoing projects for dissertation work either on-campus or off-campus locations, including their place of employment.
5. Practical training and dissertation work in real field will facilitate career development by providing a window into a particular career opportunity.
Job opportunities: This new program aims to impart knowledge to working public health professionals and others who seek to upgrade themselves in the field of health care management and administrative tasks in health care organizations. Notwithstanding the substantial progress that India has made in health since independence, the country still faces a serious health challenge. The root causes of this challenge are inadequate human resource capacity and poor support systems in health (eg: health surveillance system). Institutions in India collectively churn out <500>
This programme is aimed at developing public health administrators with expertise in related areas of community health including disease characteristics, their prevention and control, management in crisis situations, forecast strategic disease prevention policies, quality assurance & regulatory affairs. The main focus of this programme is to emphasize on preventive measures that pose a threat to public health than treatment that has become a focal point in the current global scenario. The programme is targeted at health care professionals / managers / administrators in governmental / non-governmental and public sector organizations, hospitals, academicians, physicians as well as other professionals with related background. Apart from BITS faculty, experts / faculty from collaborating Institutes will be involved in teaching as well as training of the enrolled students.
