ORISSA – MBA (AGRI BUSINESS) ADMISSION 2010 – UTKAL UNIVERSITY

Among the many changes that have taken place in Indian agriculture are the manner in which farmers’ decisions are increasingly being influenced by market forces and corporate business processes. Economic reforms, especially the liberalization, privatization and globalization processes are exerting increasing influence on a growing section of our farming community. Among other changes has been transformation of farming from a subsistence oriented, traditional way of life, to become “farm business”. These have created opportunities for many fold increase in income from agriculture.

Another consequence of the economic reforms has been the growing presence of corporate entities in the field of agriculture; because of this as also due to inadequacies in the government agricultural extension system, the extension services and the innovative methodologies (such as the e-choupal initiative) adopted by the private sector agri-business companies are occupying increasingly important role in the lives of farmers. The above changes present unprecedented opportunities as well as great challenges for tomorrow’s agri-business managers .The programme prepares students for managerial and entrepreneurial careers in enterprises serving or dependent on agriculture and allied sectors. These enterprises may be engaged in activities such as :
* Production, Procurement, Processing, and Marketing of Inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, farm machinery and equipment, livestock feed, irrigation, and credit.
* Production, Procurement, Processing, and Marketing of Output such as agriculture (includes crops, livestock, fisheries, forestry, agro forestry, horticulture, dairying) marketing, agro processing, and food processing;
