NEW DELHI – PATA VANYA JEEV MITRA AWARDS 2010 – WWF

These awards aim to acknowledge individuals, institutions and community groups for their leadership and transformative contribution to conserve India’s wildlife and natural resources.

Instituted jointly by WWF- India and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), these awards are a celebration of India’s natural heritage and an acknowledgment of continuing extraordinary efforts of India’s ordinary people to protect and conserve this for future generations.

Eligibility: Nominees for these awards should have made significant and lasting contribution to Wildlife Conservation in India. This may include but is not limited to the following:
* Habitat conservation
* Species Conservation
* Managing Human-Wildlife Conflict
* Prevention and control of illegal wildlife crime and trade
* Public Awareness
* Community participation in conservation including promoting sustainable management of natural resources. The awards are open to Indian nationals, community groups and institutions and organisations registered and based in India for work done in India. The majority of the work should have been accomplished in a period of two years immediately preceding the Year of Award. Thus for Awards presented in 2010, the work during 1st Jan 2008 -31st Dec. 2009 will be considered.
Category of Awards:
1. WWF-PATA Vanya Jeev Mitra Awards: Two Awards for Individuals who have made an Outstanding and Lasting contribution to Wildlife Conservation in India: A cash award of Rs. 50,000/- and a citation, each.

2. WWF-PATA Vanyajeev Mitra Sangathan: One award to an Organisation or institution for Outstanding and Lasting contribution to Wildlife Conservation in India: A cash award of Rs. One lakh and a citation.

3. WWF-PATA Vanyajeev Mitra Samudaya: One award to a community level institution or group, preferably working in rural areas for Outstanding and Lasting contribution to Wildlife Conservation in India: A cash award of Rs. One lakh and a citation.
