Admission to B.Tech programmes

IIST is Asia’s first space university and the only one in the world to offer courses from undergraduate to doctoral level in space science and technology. The students passing out of IIST with minimum specified academic performance will be absorbed in ISRO as scientists/engineers. An assistanceship package is offered by department of space for all the B.Tech students to cover the complete cost of education, boarding and lodging

Admission to the B.Tech programmes in Aerospace engineering, Avionics and Physical sciences in IIST, Thiruvananthapuram is through the IIST admission test (ISAT – 2010). The test consists of two question papers of objective type, each of two hours duration having questions from physics, chemistry and mathematics.

Results of ISAT – 2010 will be available by May 2010



Date of test: Friday, 16th April, 2010

Paper-I: 10.00 to 12.00 hrs, Paper-II: 14.00 to 16.00 hrs

Eligibility: ISAT-2010 is open for Indian citizens only

Date of birth: General, OBC category candidates should be born on or after October 1st, 1985 and others (SC/ST persons with physical disability) should be born on or after October 1st, 1980

Qualifying-examination – class XII: Candidate must have passed XII standard or any equivalent examination for the first time in the calendar year 2009 or 2010, provided the results are available before 1st July 2010

Minimum percentage of marks – class X exam: Candidates belonging to general and OBC categories must have at least 70% in all subjects combined and those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must have at least 60%

Minimum percentage of marks – class XII exam: Candidates belonging to general and OBC categories must have at least 70% in aggregate in physics, chemistry and mathematics (PCM) papers and those belonging to SC, ST and PD categories must have at least 60%

Application fee: Rs. 500/- for male candidates in general and OBC categories, Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PD and all female candidates

Payment should be in the form of a demand draft drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘the Registrar, IIST’ payable at Thiruvananthapuram

Reservation of seats: Reservation of seats for B.Tech programmes is as per govt. of India rules

Examination centres: ISAT-2010 will be conducted in about thirty cities, spread all over India

Procedure for application: Candidates should submit the application online through IIST website www.iist.ac.in/IIST/ISAT 2010/ or alternate website www.isac.gov.in/iist/

The application process involves (i) online registration for obtaining password (ii) submission of online application with complete details of demand draft and all other information (iii) printing and sending admit card, application form and demand draft by post to the address given below

Submission of online application: 21st December 2009 – 10a.m. to 31st January, 2010 – 11.30 p.m.

Last date of receipt of documents by post in ISAT office – 8th February 2010
