It’s time for all those long hours of toil you spent in the lab to be avenged. Aakaar brings you the National Civil Engineering Students’ Symposium, a pedestal for your budding idea to be heard – by students, professors and industry professionals alike. Present your work in front of the country’s best civil engineering leaders, and up against the best civil engineering students. And hold your breath, because if it stands the test, it may just make it to the elite few to be published.

Deadlines:
Abstract Submission: 25th December, 2009
Declaration of Shortlisted Papers: 20th January, 2010
Receipt of Demand Draft: 5th February, 2010
Symposium: 27th February, 2010
There are two separate categories for Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) students.

Abstract Submission: An abstract must be submitted online at aakaar@civil.iitb.ac.in by 25 December 2009. Abstract specifications may be viewed HERE. The abstract must be in the specified format.
For Shortlisted Candidates: The list of shortlisted abstracts will be declared on 20 January 2010. It is strongly recommended that the participant check his/her email frequently for notices regarding the Symposium. A non-refundable registration fee of Rs 500 per participant is required to be paid by the shortlisted candidates in form of a DD drawn in favour of Civil Engineering Association (CEA), IIT Bombay by 5 February 2010. Receipt of this DD will be considered as confirmation of the participation in NCESS to be held on 27 February 2009. Please note that this fee covers the participant’s expenses pertaining to lodging and meals only.

Rules: Please note that NCESS is a platform for presentation of original work. Presentations containing information copied directly from other sources will be instantly disqualified. The participants may bring their complete papers for NCESS if they wish. However, no extra credit will be given in case the full paper is furnished. Only one person may present a joint work co-authored by multiple students. A participant may be the co-author or presenter of a maximum of two entries. The maximum time allowed for the presentation is 10 minutes. Jury and audience may ask the questions following the oral presentation. A maximum of 5 minutes time will be allowed for the question answer session. The Guidelines/Rules indicated here are subject to change. All participants would be informed in advance regarding such changes. Hence, the participants are advised to visit the Aakaar site and check their email frequently.

Prizes and Awards: The first, second and third position holder in each category (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) will be awarded with prizes and Certificate of Excellence. A Certificate of Participation will be given to all the participants presenting their work in NCESS 2010.
