IGNOU – IFLA INTERNATIONAL NEWSPAPER CONFERENCE 2010 – NEW DELHI

Libraries the world over are facing the dual challenges of preserving the printed newspapers as part of the culture of countries, and responding to the changes that new technologies bring on to managing both printed and online (born digital) newspapers. Rapid advancements of digital technologies affect the various aspects relating to newspapers in libraries and archives such as acquisition, collection development, access, storage, preservation of newspapers and their contents, and interlibrary lending.

Aim: The purpose of this conference aims not only at the sharing of collective knowledge about how libraries can tackle these challenges but also to open up opportunities for libraries, librarians and associated industry players to interact with one another and work out suitable partnerships that will help to improve the provision of newspaper services at libraries. Event Venue & Date: The IFLA Newspaper Conference will be held at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi from 25th – 28th February 2010.
Themes: Digital Preservation and Access to News and Views. History, Heritage and Tradition Newspaper Libraries in South and South East Asia. Physical Preservation of Newspaper Resources (hardcopies archives, Microfilm Archives etc.) Digital Preservation of Newspaper Resources (digital text archives, e-paper archives, online web archives). Digital Preservation of News Resources: Clippings, Photographs, Cartoons and Infographics etc. Metadata Standards, Consistency and Harmonization for both digitized newspapers and born digital newspapers. Newspaper Library Users and Their Information Needs. Newspaper Digital Library Services and Access Methods. Marketing and Promotion of Newspaper Library Services.

Abstract Submission: The proposal should include the following details:

Title of paper
Abstract (between 200 – 500 words) in English only

Registration: Participants from other countries may pay their participation fee in cash at the registration counter. Registration fee is non-refundable. Substitution in nomination is acceptable only up to 15th February 2010. Registration fee does not include accommodation and transportation. Registration will be confirmed only if the form is duly completed and payment received in full.
