Kolkata: Professional education institution WLC College India (WLCI) has announced special scholarships for defence personnel, their families and ex-service men.
"These scholarships will be offered for professional courses in business economics, fashion technology, advertising and graphic design, visual communications and mass communications," WLC College India Chief Executive Officer Malobika Sengupta told sources.
"Lot of defence personnel join our institute for the courses after glorious careers in the armed forces. So we thought we should do something as a token of appreciation of their service to the country," she said.
The scholarships for the defence personnel and their wards have been categorised into three prominent sections. Children of personnel, of any rank, who were killed in action, will be given full scholarship.
Wards of personnel of any rank who died in harness will be provided 50 percent scholarship. Moreover, army officers and children of army officers will be awarded 25 percent concession on the fees.
"Our scholarships for the defence personnel is a way to show our gratitude towards their work and sacrifice for the unity and progress of the nation," she said, adding that the scholarships would be available at both under graduate and post graduate levels.
In the last two-three years, the academy has trained around 100 defence personnel. IANS
