State boards not asked to scrap Class 10 board exams - Sibal

Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday said central school education boards have been asked to adopt a grading system and the states were free to pursue their own curriculum and examination system.

"I never said we will scrap the class 10 board exams in the states. They are free to decide their own curriculum," Sibal told reporters here after inaugurating a central university in Koraput.

He, however, reiterated that the grading system will be introduced in schools during 2009-10, which was agreed to at a meeting in New Delhi.

Sibal said there was no opposition to grading system and it had been supported by all the boards at a just concluded meet, though there was some opposition to scrapping the class 10 board exam. IANS
