ICMR in collaboration with PGIMER, Chandigarh will hold a National level examination on Sunday, July 12th 2009 for determining the eligibility of Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) through Indian Council of Medical Research. The award of Junior Research Fellowship to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding placement in a medical college / hospital / university / national laboratory / institution of higher learning and research as applicable.


(I) A total of 150 Fellowships would be awarded. ( 120 fellowships would be awarded for work in the field of biomedical sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences (like microbiology, physiology, molecular biology, genetics, human biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, immunology,Pharmacology, zoology, botany, Environmental Sciences and veterinary sciences etc.). Thirty fellowships would be awarded for work with emphasis on Social Sciences like psychology, Sociology, Home Science, Statistics, Anthropology, Social work & Health Economics.

(I-i) Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for life sciences and the second for those candidates qualifying for social sciences, will be made on the basis of their performance in the above test.

(I-ii) The candidates selected for the JRF programme of ICMR would be permitted to enroll themselves for the Ph.D. programme of any University recognised by the UGC/MCI. However, the JRF programme would not have any connection with the Ph.D. programme. The validity of fellowship awarded to a candidate will be six months.

(II) Another 100 candidates would be selected for consideration for positions of JRF under various research schemes of ICMR (subject to fulfilling the conditions for appointment under the schemes) for the duration of that scheme. These JRFs would also be permitted to complete Ph.D. while working in the scheme, if enrolled. The validity of result will be two years for placement in ICMR funded projects.

(III) SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped (PH) applicants will be given such special consideration as per policy guidelines.

(IV) The successful candidates would be notified by post, Internet in the first week of August, 2009. The list would also be available on the ICMR website.

Educational Qualification:

M.Sc,/M.A. or equivalent degree with minimum 55% marks for General/OBC Candidates and 50% for the SC/ST & physically handicapped candidates in the subjects mentioned under the head method of selection.

A candidate who is appearing / has appeared in the final year (IV/VI Semester whichever is applicable, and final year where Semester system is not there) of M.Sc./M.A. or Equivalent Examination during the session (2008-2009) can also apply for the test as RA (Result Awaited). Such candidates will have to submit the attestation format (given in the end of application) duly certified by the Head of the Department/ Institute over his/her signature and rubber stamp (with address and name) where he/she is appearing in the final year examination. However, such candidates shall be admitted to the Test provisionally and shall be considered eligible for JRF only after they submit the proof of having passed the Master's Degree examination with requisite percentage. The M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent degree marksheet must be submitted to ICMR, latest by 30th September 2009, otherwise candidature will automatically be forfeited.

Age Limit

The age limit for admission to the eligibility test is 28 years as on 30-09-2009 (upper age limit relaxable up to 5 years in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST, physically handicapped (PH) and female candidates, 3 years in the case of OBC category.

Application form duly completed must reach the Registrar; Academic Section PGIMER, Chandigarh-160012 by registered/Speed post on or before 25.4.2008. Candidate from remote areas /regions may submit their application forms duly completed latest by 2.5.2008.

Eligibility:

HOW TO APPLY
Information bulletin containing the application form and other details will be available at PGIMER Website http:// pgimer.nic.in and ICMR website icmr.nic.in.The candidates may apply in the downloaded form together with requisite fee by demand draft in the name of DIRECTOR, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The prescribed application form along with Information brochure will also be available on cash payment (Not by Cheque or money order) from the office of Registrar, Academic Section at the counter (Kairon Block 3rd Floor Training Branch ) & ICMR, New Delhi from 30.3.2009 on payment of Rs. 500/- for General & OBC and Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PH from 10.30AM to 12.30PM and from 2.30 PM to 3.30 PM on all working days except Saturdays (On Saturday forms will be available at PGIMER, Chandigarh only from 10.30 AM to 12.30 PM) or by post for which request (inscribed on the envelope“Application form ICMR-JRF Exam -2009 must be accompanied with a Self addressed thick envelope of size 8” x10” bearing Postage stamp of Rs. 30/- and requisite Bank draft. The Bank draft should be preferably from any SBI Branch payable at SBI Medical Institute Branch (Code No. 1524), Chandigarh (for General & OBC Rs. 500/- and Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/PH) drawn in favour of “Director, PGI, Chandigarh”)

Candidates are advised to preserve photocopy of the Bank draft for further reference. SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates should submit a copy of the certificate from the competent authority in English or Hindi along with bank draft. All disputes relating to the conduct of the examination or any matter connected with this advertisement shall be dealt in the jurisdiction of Delhi Court.

The application form duly completed alongwith with requisite enclosures, must reach the Registrar, Academic Section, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh-160012 by registered / speed post on or before 29.4.2009. For candidates from Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of J & K State, Lahaul & Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Island and Lakshadweep, the application must reach on or before 06.05.2009 .
