Maharashtra board to introduce Marathi and Eng as optional subject
Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will introduce lower-level Marathi and English literature as optional subjects from 2009-10.
Now, options are available for the students to choose between vernacular and international language.
"It will be easy for students who have had Marathi at the school level," said Shridhar Salunkhe, chairman of the board's Mumbai division.
New English literature will be helpful for those students who wish to compete in the international market. Students will be taught communication skills, grammar, and prose in existing English syllabus.
The works of William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, and John Milton will be the part of new syllabus.
Textbooks for Easy Marathi and English literature will be available in the market by June. Lower mathematics as an optional subject was also introduced by the board last year
