IGNOU collaborates with Chennai-based trust to offer engineering courses

New Delhi: With the increasing number of students aspiring to get admission into engineering course, the School of Engineering and Technology at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has collaborated with the Chennai-based Sri Angala Parameshwari Education Trust (SAPET).

The School of Engineering and Technology will offer certificate, diploma and degree programmes in various engineering branches including, civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, electronics and communication technologies and computer science.

Students having 10+2 degree with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics can enroll into the engineering course.

Students having diploma in engineering will be given lateral entry in third year according to the norms of lower and upper age policies.

"Programme will also be helpful for those who fail to get admission into engineering course due to weak socio-economic conditions or lack of awareness or non-availability of higher technical institutions in areas they live,'' said Latha Pillai, pro-vice chancellor, IGNOU.

"The programme will be designed as per industry needs and demands. Students will be awarded credits on the basis of what they have studied,"

The programme will commence from January 2010.
