Delhi to get two more centres of IGNOU

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will soon establish its two more centres in New Delhi. Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of the University, announced this during the 20th convocation held on February 28.

Out of these two centres, one will be established at Jantar Mantar and a regional centre will come up at Dwarka. At present, Delhi has 33 IGNOU Study Centres and 2 Regional Centres.

A new centre is also likely to come up in Noida to ensure better student support in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The University has opened seven more regional centres at Goa, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Nagpur, Vijayawada, Thiruvananthapuram and Jorhat.

300 new learners support centres have already been started in the country to ensure better outreach.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Pillai said, "We have established ourselves in foreign countries also. With 6,000, enrolments and 52 partner institutions, we have expanded our horizons to 33 countries. The thrust on research was prominent among the activities of the University."

"The University is in the process of developing and testing a system of online and on-demand examinations. IGNOU also plans to extend consultancy services to State governments and various other universities for training in the use of new technologies and building up human resources for the corporate sector," said the Vice-Chancellor.
