IGNOU collaborates with Railtel to set up study centres at railway stations
New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will soon setup its study centres at 3,000 railway stations in association with the government-owned Railtel Corporation of India Ltd.
Railtel's high-speed optical fibre cable (OFC) network will be used by IGNOU to provide educational content.
At these virtual colleges, students will interact with teachers through the university's distance learning modules and online tests.
"We expect all these centres likely to be operational by June this year," said Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU.
The university is also planning to setup study centres at railway stations in rural areas, apart from tier II and tier III cities in collaboration with Railtel which has laid about 30,000 km of OFC network," said S. K. Vasistha, managing director Railtel.
