Education sector gets Rs.41, 978.21 crore in interim budget

New Delhi: The education sector has seen a quantum jump in the budgetary allocation in 2009-10. This year a total of Rs.41,978.21 crore has been granted to education sector as against Rs.37,366.57 in the revised estimate of 2008-09 budget.

Rs28,799.21 crore has been granted to school education while the higher education has been allocated Rs13,179 crore in the interim budget.

An amount of Rs312.90 crore has been granted in the interim budget 2009-10 for setting up of 6,000 model schools at block level across the country.

Setting up of model schools at block level was announced by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in his Independence Day address in 2007.

The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), a new scheme to improve secondary education has been given Rs.1,143.46 crore.

The Scheme for Providing Quality Education in Madrassas (SPQEM) has been given Rs 45 crore and the Scheme for Infrastructure Development in Minority Institutions has received Rs 4.50 crore.
