Colloquium on Indo-US relations conducted at IP University
New Delhi: A colloquium on Indo-US relations was conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) here today here.
Mr. Reggie Singh, Diplomat (Economic), US Embassy, India, spoke on the topic 'Inauguration of President Barack H. Obama and developments in the first week of the new administration' on the occassion.
Speaking on the new presidential administration and its impact on India-US relations, Mr. Singh emphasized that the bilateral relations between two countries is one of the areas the present administration is focussing on.
He further said, "US remains India's largest trading partner whereas, for US, India is 17th largest trading partner. Hence, there is vast economic potential available."
He also expressed his hope that by 2012, the bilateral trade between Indian and US will increase upto US$ 100 million. Focus should be on private sector as it is the one driving the growth even during the period of economic slowdown.
The lecture was followed by a Q&A session, where Mr. Singh answered queries on US approach towards South Asian countries, recession, and impact of war in global scenario and so on.
The Colloquium was also attended by Prof. Dilip K. Bandyopadhyay, Vice Chancellor, GGSIPU; Mr. V.K. Jain, Registrar, GGSIPU; and Prof. Anu Singh Lather, Director, IP Colloquium, besides other senior officers and faculty members of the University.
