New academic session at Ezhimala Naval Academy from 2009
Ezhimala (Kerala): A state-of-the-art Naval Academy will soon come up in Ezhimala, fulfilling India's dream of having a world class academy to train navy personnel.
The Ezhimala Naval Academy is under construction at present. The Academy will conduct a B.Tech. course for 750 cadets/commissioned officers with effect from the academic session commencing in 2009.
The B.Tech. programme has been drawn up by the Navy in conjunction with the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The Academy is being setup so that all officers joining the navy pass through this academy and the entire officer cadre is initiated into naval life from a common controlled background.
The academy will also train officers from friendly nations, helping India project its image as a friendly maritime power.
In the intervening period, Naval Orientation courses are being conducted to utilize the available basic training infrastructure since June, 2005. So far, six such courses have been completed.
